“Hill” Training

Treasure Island Causeway

Hill training can be a challenge here in hill-free coastal Florida, so bridges are my hills. Today’s post-work 5k run took me across the Treasure Island Causeway in some pretty brutal wind. Windy, but a great view from atop this draw bridge.

I lived in NW Portland before I moved to Florida and THOSE were some hills. If you make it to Portland make sure you run Washington Park or Forest Park, both in the NW corner of the city. If you’re feeling extra burly you can start in Washington Park, run for a few miles through a rose garden, an arboretum, a Japanese garden and then catch a trail spur that winds thru Forest Park for another several miles.

I’m still trying to find some hills but until I do I’ll just run across my drawbridges and enjoy the view from up there.
